We often go to European places on a short holiday. This time at the end of September when the weather has cooled a bit in Sicily. We fly directly with Ryanair from Eindhoven to Sicily Catania.
We stay under the Mount Etna at an Agriturismo Hotel La Terra dei Sogni, small rooms but with a balcony and a nice pool to cool down on the end of the day ,friendly staff and a excellent Kitchen, we also rented a car so we can drive around the island on or own
Sicily is an ideal holiday destination and perfect for exploring by car! It is sunny, colorful and pure and you will find green forests, golden brown hills, olive groves and lemon and orange plantations beautiful pebble beaches with clear water
So we stayed here for 5 days , 5 days is to short to see all the island if you have time you can combine several hotels on your trip around the island.
We love this places to visist :
1, Mount Etna
2, Taormina beach Isola Bella and village with the theatre
3, Agrigento Valley of the Temples
4, Agrigento Scala dei Turchi, white rocky Cliffs
5, Siracusa
Of course there is so much more to visit but it was to far from the hotel so i have to come back another time to visit the other part of the island
Taormina
Taormina is one of the most visited places in Sicily. Taormina is a bustling small town with nice restaurants, nice shops and a lot of antiquity. In the lower part of the village there are several beautiful beaches. One of the most beautiful relics of Greek antiquity can be found in Taormina. Here is the ancient Greek theater in the middle of the village
Etna
The symbol of Sicily, the Etna volcano. Whoever thinks of this Italian island, thinks immediately of this impressive natural monument. From the foot of the mountain it is about a half hour drive to the top, here you can look around or with a guided tour further up, please note it is very windy and cold so high on the mountain
Agrigento
Her you will find the valle of the temples and the beach of Scala dei Turchi we also visit the di Punta Bianca beach with the old prison house by the ocean.
Be aware Scala di Turchi is very crowed with people on a summer day, so i recomended to visit in the morning or evening or visit Punta Bianca where there are less people.
Siracusa
In Siracusa you will find countless cultural treasures of inestimable value. In the center of the city, the Greek theater and the many museums are certainly worth a visit. The city is located on the Ionian Sea and has been placed on the Unesco World Heritage List by the presence of many ancient relics.
Oriented Nature Reserve Oasis of Vendicari you also pasted on the road by Siracussa its a beach with a Nature Oasis and some old ruins
If you one see all of Sicily you need more time then one week and stop diffirent hotels for staying, so a round trip wil be perfect for Sicily.
Sicily has long been a crossroads and crucible of Mediterranean culture, and the island today is a fascinating palimpsest in which Greek temples, Norman churches and Baroque palazzos emerge from the rich fabric. , Sicily has a mild climate that makes it an attractive destination for much of the year: spring and autumn are sheer delight and though high summer (July, August) temperatures really do soar, sea breezes in coastal areas take the edge off the heat.
