Weekend trip Cologne
At an hour drive from the border of the Netherlands lies the beautiful German city Cologne with its huge cathedral high above the Hohenzollern Bridge. It is a great sight from the river Rhine. The city is famous for its rich history, and its cultural architectural heritage. I like to walk around the city or relax at the Rhine river ,the atmosphere in the city reminds me of Amsterdam. The bank along the Rhine river always lives, the beaches the parks there is always something to do. A multicultural city
Sights:
The cathedral this majestic cathedral stands head and shoulders above the city of Cologne. From the approximately 157 meters high towers you can enjoy a beautiful view of the city.
Alt Stadt
The nicest and most historic part of Cologne is the oldest district in the city. Here, for example, you will find a lovely pedestrian zone around the cathedral. Many shops, terraces, and restaurants. The narrow streets, some of which are paved with cobblestones, give the city its historic feel. Enjoy the Rhine river in the many restaurants.
The right bank of the Rhine
It is still claimed that the view from the Deutzer Ufer on the skyline across the street is the only reason for real Cologne people to cross the Rhine. While Rheinpark and Messe have long been attractive sights on the right bank with a beautiful boulevard to see the sun go down behind the Dom while enjoying a Kölsch beer or a glass of wine on a beautiful summer evening.
Rathaus
The beautiful Rathaus in Cologne can rightly be called a historic town hall. The towers have already been built between 1407-1414 and for that time real skyscrapers. The beautiful city hall consists of three parts. The town hall, Spanish building, and the Pretorium.
Groß St. Martin
The city of Cologne has many churches, some of are worth a visit. The Groß St. Martin church, for example. This Romanesque church of considerable size and is particularly notable for its four corner towers.
Hohenzollernbrücke
This important railway bridge in Cologne has been over the Rhine river since the beginning of the 20th century. The Hohenzollernbrücke is very recognizable by its three arches. The bridge offers space for trains, trams, cars, cyclists, and pedestrians. With a walk across the bridge, you will not fail to notice how many locks of different sizes have been attached to it. Often these are left behind by tourists. You often encounter this phenomenon in tourist cities. The arches are beautifully lit at night and thus demand a prominent place in the city of Cologne. It is my favorite place to photograph because the Dom is beautifully in line with the bridge.
The Köln Triangle
Cologne has a number of tall buildings with a beautiful view over the city, including the Dom, which is 157 meters high. You have a better view from the Köln Triangle, a 103-meter high office building with an observation platform right across the river. From here you can view the Dom itself and countless other Cologne attractions. A great place to see the sun go down behind the Dom Cathedral
Farina-Haus
Probably everyone knows the old cologne with the figures 4711. This odor water was born in Cologne at the Glockengasse 4711 in the Farina-Haus. The fragrance was developed in 1709 by Johann Maria Farina. Nowadays there is a perfumery and museum in this building
Brüsseler Platz
A somewhat hipper piece of the city can be found in the district of Belgian Viertel. Here you will find many trendy bars, restaurants, and unique shops. At the pleasant square Brüsseler Platz, there is always a cheerful crowd.
Shopping on the Neumarkt
The Neumarkt the beating heart of the city center. Here, shoppers can indulge themselves. Behind the glass doors, a colorful and versatile range of shops is spreading. Large crowds of visitors come to the Neumarkt during the Christmas market.
Rheinauhafen
In addition to the Dom, the location of Cologne on the Rhine is a major tourist attraction. Since the redevelopment of the Rheinauhafen, a new view has been created here. The Schokoladen museum in glass and aluminum provides many visitors to Rheinau Island.
Cycling along the Rhine
During sun-drenched weekends, the cycling and hiking trails along the Rhine are frequented. After all, there is always something to see on the water for freighters or a huge cruise ship. The Altstadtufer is a good starting point for bicycle tours upstream along the Rhine, for example to the spring in Weiss.
Weekend trip Keulen
Op een uurtje rijden vanaf de grens licht het mooie Keulen met zijn Dom hoog uitstekend boven de Hohenzollern Bridge een geweldig gezicht vanaf de rivier de Rijn. De stad is beroemd om zijn rijke geschiedenis, het culturele en architecturale erfgoed. Ik mag er graag rondlopen de sfeer in de stad doet me denken aan Amsterdam. De oever langs de Rijn rivier leeft altijd, de strandjes de parken er is altijd wat te doen. Een multiculturele stad
Bezienswaardigheden:
De Dom deze magistrale kathedraal steekt met kop en schouders uit boven de stad Keulen. Vanuit de ongeveer 157 meter hoge torens kun je genieten van een prachtig uitzicht over de stad.
Alt Stadt Het leukste en meest historische gedeelte van Keulen is de oudste wijk van de stad. Hier vind je bijvoorbeeld rondom de Dom een heerlijk stuk voetgangersgebied. Veel winkels, terrasjes en restaurants. De smalle straatjes waarvan sommige met keien geplaveid geven de stad het historische gevoel. Geniet in de vele restaurantjes lang de Rijn rivier.
De rechter Rijnoever
Nog steeds wordt beweerd dat de blik vanaf de Deutzer Ufer op de skyline aan de overkant voor echte Keulenaren de enige reden is om de Rijn over te steken. Terwijl toch Rheinpark en Messe al lang aantrekkelijke bezienswaardigheden zijn op de rechteroever met een mooie boulevard om de zon te zien onder gaan achter de Dom onder het genot van een Kölsch biertje of een wijntje op een mooie zomer avond.
Rathaus Het prachtige Rathaus van Keulen is met recht een historisch stadhuis te noemen. De torens zijn namelijk al gebouwd tussen 1407-1414 en voor die tijd heuse wolkenkrabbers. Het schitterende stadhuis bestaat uit drie delen. Het gemeentehuis, Spaans gebouw en het Pretorium.
Groß St. Martin De stad Keulen heeft zeer veel kerken waarvan een aantal de moeite waard zijn om een bezoek aan te brengen. Zo geldt dat voor bijvoorbeeld de Groß St. Martin. Deze Romaanse kerk is van een behoorlijke omvang en valt met name op door zijn vier hoektorens.
Hohenzollernbrücke Al sinds het begin van de 20ste eeuw ligt deze belangrijke spoorbrug in Keulen over de Rijn. De Hohenzollernbrücke is heel herkenbaar door zijn drie bogen. De brug biedt ruimte voor treinen, trams, auto’s, fietsers en voetgangers. Met een wandeling over de brug zal het je niet ontgaan hoeveel sloten van verschillend formaat eraan zijn bevestigd. Vaak zijn deze achtergelaten door toeristen. Dit fenomeen kom je wel vaker in toeristische steden tegen. De bogen zijn ‘s avonds prachtig verlicht en eisen hiermee een prominente plaats in de stad Keulen. Het is mijn favoriete plek om te fotograferen omdat de Dom prachtig in lijn ligt met de brug.
De KölnTriangle
Keulen kent een aantal hoge gebouwen met een prachtig uitzicht over de stad, waaronder de 157 meter hoge Dom. Een beter uitzicht heb je vanaf de KölnTriangle, een 103 meter hoog kantoorgebouw met een observatieplatform meteen aan de overkant van de rivier. Vanaf hier kun je de Dom zelf en talloze andere attracties van Keulen bekijken. Een geweldige plek om de zon te zien onder gaan achter de Dom
Farina-Haus Waarschijnlijk kent iedereen de oude eau de cologne met de cijfers 4711. Dit reukwatertje is geboren in Keulen aan de Glockengasse 4711 in het Farina-Haus. Het geurtje werd in 1709 ontwikkeld door Johann Maria Farina. Tegenwoordig zit er een parfumerie en museum in dit pand
Brüsseler Platz Een wat hipper stuk van stad vind je in de wijk Belgische Viertel. Hier vind je veel trendy bars, restaurants en unieke winkeltjes. Aan het gezellige plein Brüsseler Platz is er altijd een vrolijke drukte te vinden.
Winkelen aan de Neumarkt
De Neumarkt het kloppende hart van de binnenstad. Hier kunnen winkelliefhebbers hun hart ophalen. Achter de glazen deuren spreidt zich een kleurrijk en veelzijdig winkelaanbod uit. Grote drommen bezoekers komen naar de Neumarkt tijdens de kerstmarkt.
Rheinauhafen
Naast de Dom is de ligging van Keulen aan de Rijn een grote toeristische trekpleister. Sinds de herinrichting van de Rheinauhafen is hier een nieuw aanzicht ontstaan. Het Schokoladen-museum in van glas en aluminium zorgt voor veel bezoekers op het Rheinauschiereiland.
Fietsen langs de Rijn
Tijdens zonovergoten weekenden worden de fiets en wandel paden langs de Rijn drukbezocht. Op het water is immers altijd wat te zien voortploegende vrachtschepen of een enorm cruiseschip. De altstadtufer is een goed startpunt voor fietstochten stroomopwaarts langs de Rijn, bijvoorbeeld tot het veer in Weiss.
